BrightDyed Designs has partnered with Martha's Village and Kitchen, the largest homeless shelter and kitchen in the Coachella Valley, to start free pop up shopping experiences for our Valley's homeless, impoverished and others in need. Every single item in our pop-up shops will always be 100% free.
Martha's Village hosted our very first free pop-up shop on August 14th, 2019. Each person in attendance was provided a shopping bag to fill based on their individual needs.
We hesitated to ask Martha's Village (it took over a month to gather the courage) to donate a room for the pop up and to our surprise the founder immediately and excitedly responded. They did so much more then donate a single room and it's been beautifully amazing. We have the use of 2 rooms, allowing for women and children to shop one room and men to shop another. Martha’s Village donated t-shirts and hundreds of sock to our shop. They also distributed backpacks filled with school supplies to over 300 school aged children in attendance, the children then shopped using their provided shopping bag for clothes and shoes.
Our first Free Pop-Up Shop at Martha’s Village and Kitchen was a huge success that far exceeded our expectations! Over 600 people shopped, 400 of those were children! We are so grateful for every single volunteer, donation and donation location, you all made this possible and positively impacted the lives of many. What was left over, about 15% of what we collected, is being distributed to communities in need, including a senior center and a smaller homeless shelter.
Thank you to the 14 local businesses that agreed/asked to place collection boxes at their locations and all of the volunteers that made the first pop-up a success. Hielo Sno, The Ritz-Carlton(Rancho Mirage), Trainer Joe’s, About Families, Jadabug’s Kids Boutique, Jiva Collections, Dickey’s Barbeque Pit (Rancho Mirage), KHA Architects, Bobby’s Detroit Coney Island, Alexandrite Active & Golf Wear, Certified Farmers’ Market Palm Springs, Clever Jade and The Locklear Group.
Upon asking a local laundromat, Sparklean Laundry/Fluff & Fold, for a discount to wash and dry all donations, the owners, Keith and Jacqueline Reed, insisted on allowing us to use their facility free of charge. They also had their folding staff help us fold the 3000lbs of laundry! Thank you, Sparklean!
Our family is super proud of what we have accomplished so far and what is to come. We are overjoyed with the response of so many wanting to donate their time, space and items. We met amazing people and beautiful families on August 14th, our hearts are full from the joy and smiles of all that attended. There were tears of gratitude, hugs given and many offers from shoppers to volunteer at future pop-ups. In our eyes and hearts, doing what you can to lessen the weight of difficult times for another human being is not a cause, it is what we all should be doing without a second thought. People supporting and helping each other is easy.
Follow your passion and believe in you! Only the beginning for us, stay tuned…
